There exists many resources relating to Welsh authors writing in English and general literature resources or works with a Welsh setting. This is a listing of the more general literature resources.

  • Academi is the body promoting both the writers and the literatures of Wales. The Academi contains an up to date events guide to literary Wales, updated information on the writers and the publishers of Wales, and a Welsh literary news section. Details of the Tŷ Newydd writers courses at Cricieth are also featured. The writers of Wales directory lists biographical, bibliographical and contact details for many authors in Wales. There is also a directory of publishers in Wales. The Academi website also has details of its writers on tour scheme and its associated lectures and workshops.


  • The Welsh Books Council is the body concerned with the promotion of Welsh language literature, and books of Welsh interest for both adults and children. They are also responsible for Kids Bookline. The website has profiles of a number of childrens authors and illustrators, an introduction to Bardd Plant Cymru and an introduction to the months new books. The site also has a link to gwales.com




  • National Language Unit of Wales is an educational service run by the Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC). The Welsh Joint Education Committee publishes an English in Wales newsletter for distribution in schools. The webpages provide and 'identify high-quality writing that offer opportunities, within a Curriculum Cymreig, to deliver language and literacy requirements of the National Curriculum'.


  • WLA- Welsh Literature Abroad exists in order to 'facilitate the translation of Wales' literature' and promote the writers and literature of Wales to an international audience. It offers grants and financial assistance for publishers to translate both English and Welsh literatures. The website has a biography of a number of Welsh authors, information on many published books and eligibility for WLA grants. The news, events and features sections contain many items on the literature scene in Wales.


  • Cyfwe is based at the School of European Languages, University of Wales, Swansea. It was established in order to translate contemporary Welsh literature into numerous languages, with parallel texts and commentary. The site includes background information on the project, example texts, references, links and contact information. Cyfwe's aim is to 'open up the riches of Welsh literature to a worldwide audience through the Web'.


  • Bwlet.net is the 'bibliography of Welsh literature in English translation' by C.R.E.W (Centre for Research into the Literature and Language of Wales) at Swansea University. Bwlet.net is the first comprehensive listing of English translations from Welsh language literature. The online database's records range from translations of sixth century poets to the literary renaissance of the 20th century and the vibrant contemporary scene.

The BBC are also responsible for a number or educational websites in Wales. They include:

  • The Big Read, a BBC initiative celebrating the magic of reading. The Wales section has a list of 10 books which the Big Read organisers thank are essential reading. Each selected book has a a local celebrity endorsment. Books chosen include Under Milk Wook, Rape of the Fair Country, One Moonlit Light (Un Noson Ola Leuad), and Feet in Chains (Traed mewn Cyffion). Authors include Niall Griffiths, Kate Roberts, Richard Llywellyn, Caradog Pritchard, Emyr Humphries, Alexander Cordell, Charlotte Williams, Stevie Davies, Trezza Azzopardi and Dylan Thomas.


  • BBC Wales Arts, a guide to the arts and entertainment scene in Wales. The website contains many reviews to the latest arts and entertainment releases in Wales, features on artists , interviews with individuals involved in the arts scene and reviews of English language books.
