There are many local Environmental and Sustainable Development groups and initiatives within Wales that promote awareness of these issues. Listed below are some examples:

Better Swansea is a partnership that includes many of the key agencies in Swansea, giving them the opportunity to work together in order to deal with issues relating especially to sustainable development, social inclusion and culture and heritage within the city.

Brithdir Mawr is an eco-village, based on a former farm of 165 acres in Pembrokeshire, that runs several projects of a sustainable nature. The community there aims to take care of the land by recycling and conserving resources and farming and gardening organically, and are off the electricity and water grids. The website provides an introduction to community life, and information about renewable energy and organic gardening.

Cardiff Conservation Volunteers (CCV) was established in 1978 as there was a need for a local group to maintain the countryside and preserve the skills involved in conservation work. The website provides information about CCV and the different activities that they undertake, such as building footpaths, fencing, dry stone walling, tree planting and tree felling. There is also a Cardiff Student Conservation Volunteers group that is joined to the CCV.

Cwm Harry Land Trust is a community enterprise based in Tregynon near Newtown, and are involved in sustainable waste management projects and community food growing. Their website provides details of its waste management techniques and the Green Waste Project.

Elemental Earth is a not-for-profit organisation, based in the Dyfi Valley in Mid Wales. They work to connect people to their environment through arts and land based projects, and provide many training opportunities. Their website includes information about the organisation and their work, with details about their background, community projects, courses and training, and the schools woodlands gardens that they have set up in Corris, Machynlleth and Aberdovey.

Mentro Lluest is a charity, based in Aberystwyth, that was set up to develop the skills of people with special needs within the framework of organic growing, environmental sustainability and social cohesion. The organization also aims to educate and raise awareness of these things in the general community.
