Digital Wales -- Architectural drawings

Many architectural drawings have been digitised. This section contains examples from Wales.

Architecture of Wales
Architecture of Wales is an online version of the exhibition displaying many architectural drawings of Welsh buildings and other structures, that was held at the National Library of Wales. The exhibits are displayed into 9 themes. Examples include:

  • Domestic architecture (including Ruperra Castle Stables)
  • Public architecture (including Llanelli Town Hall, National Library of Wales, National Museum of Wales)
  • Public utilities (including Pontypridd and Llangollen Bridges)
  • Industrial, commercial, and military architecture (incl Copperworks in Swansea and Wrexham Colliery Offices)
  • Religious architecture (including Libanus Chapel in Morriston and those at Rhosesmor, Cutiau and Lanfair)
  • Lost houses (including Middleton Hall in Carmarthenshire and Hafod in Ceredigion)

Cardiff: Building of a Capital
'Cardiff: A Building of a Capital' is a heritage lottery funded project managed by the Glamorgan Record Office. Over 40,000 Cardiff building regulation plans were catalogued and made available on the internet. The plans document the growth of Cardiff from a relatively small town to its establishment as the largest coal exporting port in the world by the end of the 19th century. The project offers online access to a large number of plans including cinemas, dog tracks, hotels, schools, offices, churches, mosques, synagogues, factories, houses, shops, coffee bars, air raid shelters and much more.

Church Plans Online
The project provides online access to the catalogue database and digitised images of 12,300 church plans in England and Wales and was funded by the New Opportunities Fund. Historic Dioceses covered by the archive include:

  • Bangor
  • Llandaff
  • Monmouth
  • St Asaph
  • St David's
  • Swansea
  • Brecon
