Herian - Heritage in Action, is a public and voluntary sector partnership set up to help the region capitalise on its industrial past. More than £92m has been earmarked to develop projects from Carmarthenshire to Monmouthshire and across the south Wales valleys over the next 10 years. It will include developing hundreds of historic locations as well as abandoned railways, canals and buildings. Herian, which is a partnership made up of 13 local authorities as well as other bodies including Cadw, the Forestry Commission, the National Trust and British Waterways, has audited 230 sites which could be developed under the 10-year-plan. The website is an overview of the project and contains a latest news section.

The Forum was inaugurated in a public meeting held on Tuesday 3 August 1999, in the Societies Tent on the Môn National Eisteddfod field, in response to a call by a number of representatives of Historical Societies and Heritage Trusts present to have one institution that could bring together the different societies in Wales that were involved with its history and heritage. The Forum is therefore looked upon as a body which operates as an umbrella over those societies that have joined up to it and a medium by which they can share information about the kind of activities that they do. The website also provides short essays on Owain Llawgoch, Princess Gwenllian, Hywel Dda, Abaty Cwmhir.
